The Parker PRD Series Cycling Refrigeration Air Dryer is designed to improve compressed air system efficiency by removing moisture while reducing energy consumption in high-flow industrial environments. These dryers are ideal for general industrial manufacturing and factory automation systems that require reliable compressed air treatment for pneumatic equipment.
PRD Series refrigeration dryers remove moisture by cooling compressed air to condense water vapour, ensuring clean and dry air enters the downstream distribution network. The units typically provide pressure dew points between 35°F (1.7°C) and 50°F (10°C), which prevents condensation in compressed air systems while maintaining stable operating conditions for pneumatic applications.
The drying process takes place through a multi-stage heat exchange cycle. Incoming compressed air is first pre-cooled, then cooled further within the refrigeration circuit to condense moisture. The condensed liquid is separated and removed before the air is reheated prior to exiting the dryer, preventing pipe sweating and condensation in downstream piping, particularly in humid operating environments.
Unlike traditional non-cycling refrigeration dryers, this PRD Series range incorporates cycling dryer technology with SmartSave energy control. Cycling dryers utilise a thermal mass to absorb heat from the compressed air, allowing the refrigerant compressor to shut off during periods of low air demand. This significantly reduces energy consumption compared with continuously running systems.
At the core of the dryer is the SmartPack aluminium heat exchanger, which integrates multiple heat exchange stages within a compact unit. The design reduces pressure drop while improving heat transfer efficiency, helping to lower operating costs.
System operation is managed through the SmartControl microprocessor controller, which continuously monitors dryer performance and ensures stable operation. The system also includes a SmartDrain dual-mode zero air loss drain, removing condensate without wasting valuable compressed air.
PRD Series cycling refrigeration dryers are available in large capacity models capable of handling compressed air flows from 325 to 2400 SCFM (552 to 4078 m³/h). With high efficiency components such as an energy-efficient scroll compressor, these dryers provide dependable performance for demanding industrial compressed air systems.
